Who I am
NordicLab is a personal project run by Sasha Yakovlev. This policy covers the whole nordiclab.org website, including the newsletter subscription. You can reach me at sasha@nordiclab.org (alternate: sasha@yakovlev.cc), or via LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/avyakovlev.
What data I collect
Depending on how you use the site, I may collect:
- Your email address (if you subscribe to my newsletter or contact me)
- The date and time of your subscription
- Your consent status (confirmed via double opt-in)
- Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and general location, collected automatically when you visit the site
If you subscribe to the newsletter, I use Brevo as my email marketing platform to store your data and send you emails. Brevo may also automatically log your IP address and browser information at the time of signup, for anti-spam and consent-record purposes.
Why I collect it
I use your data to:
- Send you my newsletter and updates about NordicLab tools and content
- Occasionally send marketing offers related to my products
- Respond to any messages you send me
- Understand how the site is used, so I can improve it
I do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Legal basis
I process your data based on:
- Your explicit consent, for example when you check the subscription box and confirm via the double opt-in email
- My legitimate interest in running and improving the site, for basic technical/security data
How long I keep your data
I keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your data is either deleted or retained only in a suppression list to ensure I don’t email you again, as required by anti-spam law. Other data (e.g. from a contact message) is kept only as long as needed to respond to you.
Data security
I take reasonable measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse, including relying on Brevo’s own security measures as a data processor. However, no transmission of data over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and any transmission is at your own risk.
Cookies
This site does not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. Brevo may use essential cookies required to process your newsletter subscription.
Some pages on this site may embed third-party content or services (for example, video players, social media widgets, or payment/donation tools). These third parties may set their own cookies or collect technical data when you interact with their content, independently of me. I do not control these cookies — please refer to the relevant third party’s own privacy policy for details.
Videos on this site are embedded from YouTube, where possible using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which limits cookies being set until you actively play a video. Once you play a video, YouTube/Google may set its own cookies and collect data according to their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
If I add analytics or other non-essential cookies in the future, I will update this policy and, where required by law, request your consent before they are activated.
You can control or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some site functionality.
Donations and support links
This site may include links or buttons to third-party donation/support platforms (such as Ko-fi or PayPal). If you choose to support me through one of these, your payment and any personal information you provide (name, email, message) is collected and processed directly by that third-party platform, not by me. I don’t receive or store your payment details. Please refer to the relevant platform’s own privacy policy (e.g. Ko-fi: https://more.ko-fi.com/privacy, PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/privacy) for how they handle your data.
International data transfers
Your data is stored and processed by Brevo. Brevo is based in the EU and primarily stores data on EU servers, so no additional international transfer safeguards are generally required. If this changes, this policy will be updated accordingly.
Your rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data I hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
- Withdraw your consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, email me at sasha@nordiclab.org (alternate: sasha@yakovlev.cc), or click the unsubscribe link in any of my emails.
Unsubscribing
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link included in every email I send. This immediately stops all future emails.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy occasionally. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent version.
